Georgina Watkins Levy, 71, Scranton, died peacefully at home on Friday. She is survived by her husband, Albert Levy. The couple had been married for 34 years.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late George and Ruth Davies Watkins, “Georgie” as she was affectionately known, was a graduate of West Scranton High School Class of 1970 and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from St. Joseph’s Nursing School. For many years, she had been employed at the former Mercy Hospital in Scranton, first as an emergency room nurse, and later upon her initial retirement, continued as a nurse within the hospital’s hospice unit.
Nearly 28 years ago, she was the recipient of a heart transplant, and in spite of any challenges, she embraced life with unwavering strength and resilience. Georgie was generous with her time and energy, whether it was sharing flowers from her garden, giving of her time to anyone who needed it, or opening her home to others, she was always thinking of everyone else. She had been an active member of Dunmore Presbyterian Church where she participated in their Bible Study group, she assisted in the foster care system for many years, and was known to be an amazing baker. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Gwen Walsh and husband Maclain of Covington Twp.; her truly beloved granddaughter and treasured namesake, Georgina “Gigi” Walsh; a sister, Myrna Watkins of Scranton; a brother, Robert Watkins and wife Judy of Scranton; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous lifelong girlfriends who have always been there and supported her.
She was also preceded in death by sisters Gwen Mulderig and Marion Urquhart, and brother Richard Watkins.
The funeral will be Thursday with services at 11 a.m. in Dunmore Presbyterian Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment to follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp.
